Using 10EaZy at dance events

Maximum Average Manager - MAM

Using 10EaZy with heavily compressed music types like dance, techno or hip-hop is very useful. Due to the tendency in these genres to aim at a ”as loud as it gets” approach, the DJ or engineer in charge can maximize the usage of a given dB limit by using the ground breaking MAM indicator on the 10EaZy user interface. The MAM continuously monitors the average sound level and compares this to the stated dB limit.

When a time averaged dB limit, referred to as a Leq limit, is enforced, conventional sound level meters has a problem. They do not have a clear indication of the current sound levels effect on the time averaged Leq value. This way the sound engineer or DJ might be playing too loud not knowing it, and once he realizes this fact it is usually too late and the need for severe reduction in sound level is required, ruining the flow of the show for the audience.

Introducing 10EaZy’s very simple MAM display, consisting of 6 green and 6 red squares. Each square represents one dB. Thru these squares the consequence of the current sound level on the Leq value is clearly and instantaneously indicated. 2 red means, “your aiming 2 dB above the limit, reduce the volume”, 3 green means, “you are aiming below the limit, you may increase the sound level if desired”.

For heavily compressed genres with fairly small level variations the MAM is the perfect companion. The DJ or engineer controlling the level has a clear indication of the sound level and can use this in a timely fashion to compromise between “loud enough” and not violating a dB limit. 10EaZy even has a warning dialog suggesting a reduction in sound level to avoid limit violation. This dialog will appear in case the sound level appears out of control. The promoter or organizer can rest assured that the sound levels will stay within limit, and should a limit violation occur the blame is directly on the DJ or engineer, as the information provided by 10EaZy, as opposed to any other brand of sound level meters, leaves no excuse for being too loud.

Additionally 10EaZy is designed to be tamperproof. There are no external buttons on the hardware. The calibration value, which ensures the precise measurements, is unique to each combination of microphone and sound card, and is hardwired into each program build. This ensures that the owner can always recall the hardwired factory calibration if in doubt.

Last but not least, the log file created each time 10EaZy is running, will store an encrypted value to the file when measurements are done. With the free 10EaZy log file validator, provided with each copy of 10EaZy, it is possible to check this encrypted value against the content of the file. If values have been altered in the file, maybe because someone decided to cover up their “over the limit dB measurements”, the file will not pass the validation. Only the content of the file is checked, so it is fully allowed to move or rename the file. However if even a decimal value is altered after a measurement has been completed, the file will fail.

These unique features makes 10EaZy a perfect solution for fixed installations at manned venues like concert halls or discotheques.
